Support #3
Support can make or break the way you feel when you go to work everyday. Although it is important to be supportive with materials and making sure that your teachers have what they need for the school year, it really stuck out to me about the importance of emotional support. It was very eye opening to read "Teachers First". We do constantly say that children need to come first, which is true to a certain extent. If teachers are not being supported and are barely keeping their head above water, then how is that good for kids? When teachers are supported, recognized, valued and respected then they will feel great about doing their job and coming to work everyday, which will positively affect children. I really liked when the book stated, "The best way to increase student achievement is through the teachers".

I'm glad you brought up the point that teachers feeling supported can lead to higher student achievement. It is important for us to realize that there is a trickle down effect that will move down from admin, to teachers, to students. If teachers are not getting supported and the things they need to be successful, they may put it off on the students (unfortunately).
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree. This kinds of reminds me of the old adage, "If momma aint happy, nobody's happy."
ReplyDeleteI agree with your comments. However, I think we have to be careful as there are districts where union leaders work hard for teachers, sometimes to the detriment of students. It is supporting teachers to support students that I think we find success.

I agree with the statement -"The best way to increase student achievement is through the teachers". These teachers have obviously been supported and valued by their leaders and colleagues. I truly believe that the ownership of our success begins from the top and moves it way to the teacher. Our administrators take ownership of our successes and failures. A true team commitment.
